DCHI Clinical Committee Update: Prioritizing and Driving Actions for Strengthening Primary Care Across Delaware

Dr. Alan Greenglass, in his role as Co-Chairperson of the DCHI Clinical Committee, provided testimony before the inaugural meeting of the Primary Care Collaborative in early September.  The Primary Care Collaborative (the Collaborative) is the legislatively created body to “assist with the development of recommendations to strengthen primary care in Delaware.”

Just before the establishment of the Collaborative, DCHI, in partnership with the Health Care Commission, conducted an inclusive Primary Care Roundtable and a Consumer Forum to solicit input from the primary care community and other invested parties to assist in prioritizing and driving actions for strengthening primary care across the state. The findings from both the Roundtable and the Consumer Forum were presented to the Primary Care Collaborative to aid in their deliberations and to supplement the information that they are gathering for a report to the Legislature and the Governor.

Impactful Change in Primary Care

Dr. Greenglass in his remarks, stressed the importance of primary care, the challenges ahead and the urgency to address those challenges with meaningful, impactful changes to bolster and support primary care now and in the future. He noted Delaware’s ability to take meaningful action.

Dr. Nancy Fan, a member of the Primary Care Collaborative and co-chairperson of the DCHI Clinical Committee, encourages broad-based input and feedback on the state-wide efforts underway. She states "The Primary Care Collaborative is deeply interested and invested in hearing all stakeholders regarding their recommendations in what would provide primary care with the support to be the foundation of a transformative and effective health care delivery system. Keeping the patient at the center of care, and investing in the future of primary care through workforce, payment reform and technology, will help to improve the care and health of all Delawareans."

DCHI will work collaboratively with the Health Care Commission, the Primary Care Collaborative, and others to ensure input and feedback on the collective efforts that are underway.
