The following is a message from Lt. Governor Bethany Hall-Long.

Embark on the journey to a healthier Delaware! You are invited to join the celebration as we kick off the Lt. Governor’s Challenge on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. at the DE Turf Complex (4000 Bay Road, Frederica, DE 19946).

High rates of chronic disease, obesity and other risk factors continue to plague our state. As a nurse, promoting healthy lifestyles and activities has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. As your Lieutenant Governor, I am committed to improving the health of our state.

Governor Carney shares my desire and passion to make Delaware stronger and healthier. During his tenure as Lieutenant Governor, he launched an effective program designed to engage Delawareans to improve their health outcomes. The Lieutenant Governor’s Challenge was a great tool that encouraged Delawareans to increase their physical activity by taking an active role in their health, and live healthier lifestyles. My goal is to take the terrific foundation Governor Carney laid in the original Challenge program, and expand that to promote not only physical wellness, but emotional wellness as well. As Chair of the Behavioral Health Consortium, I see how crucial mental and emotional health, especially in our children, is to living a healthier and more successful life. The two are intertwined. Promoting ways to support both physical and emotional health go hand in hand.

As we do our best to address healthy lifestyles, mental health/substance use disorder, chronic disease, and maternal and child health, I hope you will make every effort to join us on October 25th, and be with us as we begin the journey toward a stronger and healthier Delaware!
